BOERNE
Overview of Boerne
Boerne is a short drive from downtown San Antonio, yet it is in an idyllic location, nestled in Texas Hill Country. Lying in the far northwest part of the greater San Antonio area, Boerne offers shopping and exploring opportunities in its historic downtown.
Boerne was founded in the late 1840s by a group of German settlers, who called their new community “Tusculum”. A few years later, it was renamed after the German author, Karl Ludwig Börne and simplified for the English-speaking folks to “Boerne”.

Boundaries & Geography
Boerne is located in the southern part of Kendall County, just to the north of Bexar County and San Antonio. It sprawls on the shoulders of Texas Hill Country and has a country feel.
Interstate 10 runs along the western side of Boerne, with several highway onramps from town. The freeway goes right into downtown San Antonio, but it is only a 25-minute drive to the nearest suburbs – with all the big city shopping and other amenities they have to offer.
Traveling northeast on Interstate 10 from Boerne takes you to Kerrville, in the opposite direction from San Antonio. Kerrville offers shopping and a range of interesting things to do, including museums and nature areas.
Things To Do Around Boerne
Right around the corner from your new house, there are lots of things to see and do in Boerne. The city lies in Texas Hill Country, which means that there are great hiking trails and other areas explore close to home.
If you don’t mind driving a few minutes, you can avail yourself of all that San Antonio has to offer. Malls, museums, concerts, street festivals, theme parks, fine dining and nightclubs – you name it!
If that’s not enough, take a little road trip: Austin – the capital of Texas – is just under 90 miles away. Heck – drive for under 3 hours and enjoy the Gulf Coast beaches!
Boerne Fun Facts
Many legends have been born about the city of Boerne – specifically, how to pronounce its name. Although it was originally named for a German author, the present-day pronunciation has a bit of a Texas spin.
